It may be surprising to some to learn that Hungary, an E.U. member and major European economy, ties with China for a rank of 76 on Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI). Its CPI score – currently 42 – has decreased over the past decade, but, perhaps, things will be turning around. In the past several years, Hungary launched both a whistleblower protection law and a new anti-corruption statute, and also founded the Hungarian Integrity Authority and the Anti-Corruption Task Force to combat police corruption. The Anti-Corruption Report spoke to several experts on the ground to better understand the current corruption landscape in the country.
